Amazonas: Cruising Rio Negro in Classic Wooden Boat

Large wooden boats are the major transportation means in Amazon – they plow the waters all the way down river of Manaus to Belem (over thousand miles) and up both Rio Negro and Solimoes (over thousand miles as well). It takes days to go from point to point as the boats are slow, but you sleep in a hammock and the scenery is great. A full day cruising was a good way to experience this and get a different perspective of the river – you are much higher up from the water and dolphins and birds are easier to spot – but mostly it’s just a serene contemplation of nature as you are gliding in mirror-still water.
