Antigua: St John – St John’s Cathedral

This grand cathedral is in the capital of Antigua, St John. It was originally built in 1683 and then twice destroyed by earthquakes and rebuilt anew. It is the largest of the cathedrals in the Lesser Antilles. The gated entrance features two white statues of St John the Baptistery and the Divine, these were confiscated by a British navy ship from another vessel going from France to Martinique – spoils of war.
