Azores: Pico Island – Central Plateau

Pico is the youngest island of the Azores archipelago. It is dominated by a massive Pico volcano, but most if the central part of the island is an immense high plateau that is at the cloud level, perpetually in mist, and 100% humidity. It’s chilly, wet, windy, and forbidding. Bizarre plants and boggy lakes are abound. It’s like another planet in a way. (And I got a flat tire on a desolate road as a bonus).
