Bahamas/Exumas: Exploring Little Exuma

The small island of Little Exuma doesn’t get a lot of visitors and it’s roads and beaches are empty and desolate. A one-lane bridge connects it to the island of Great Exuma, and once you cross – it’s like a different world – insane blue vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and inland lakes in the middle of the island. Little Exuma even has remnants of a pirate fort and a pseudo-Roman column towering at its highest hill. Little Exuma’s salt lakes generated huge amounts of precious salt and the column was erected as a salt market to tell the ships where to go for their cargo. The views from the top of the hill are truly panoramic and somehow reminded me of Pitcairn in their desolation and aquamarine colors!
