Bahrain: Riffa

Second largest city in Bahrain, centered around the historic Riffa Fort. The fortress, standing on high ground overlooking the city and across the large Hunanaiya valley. The fort was built in 1812 and was for a while the residence of the Sheikh of Bahrain. It remained the seat of the Bahraini government until 1869. It is now a museum. There is also a military museum and a historic mosque nearby. And a couple blocks away is another Riffa attraction – the Riffa Clocktower.
