Bolivia: Laguna Colorada – Flamingos

Laguna Colorada is famous for its flocks of flamingos, now protected as Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna Reserve. The massive salty lake has thousands of magnificent red birds feeding on algae. The most common flamingo species is James’s flamingo, with the larger Andean and Chilean flamingos more of a rarity. Besides the flamingoes, there are many other birds, some transient.
