Bosnia & Herzegovina: Sarajevo – Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque

The largest historical mosque in the Balkans, Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo was built in 1532 at the height of Ottoman Empire. It stands right in the middle of the Old City surrounded by souk markets and traditional coffee shops. There are also ancient hammam baths and madrasa Islamic school right next to the mosque. The exterior is dominated by a huge 47m/150ft-high minaret while the inside has several domes decorated with elaborate Islamic writing. Worshipers string inside at times of daily prayers.
