Botswana: Wildflowers of Savuti

While the Savuti is usually dry and sandy throughout most of the year (which allows for great wildlife watching as the game concentrates at waterholes), the wet season is spectacular for its wildflowers which explode in a mad rush to bloom, get pollinated, and produce fruits. The wind-pollinated grasses are abundant as well, but it’s the flowering plants that steal the show – all possible colors and sizes, from clinging to the sandy ground to growing to almost human height. I even bought the guide book for the local flora and identified all but one species.
