Bougainville: Buka Town

Buka Town is the administrative capital of Bougainville. It wasn’t always so – Arawa in the Bougainville island itself was the capital until the civil war nearly wiped it off the map in the 1990s. Buka Town is on the Buka Island and facing the Buka Strait. It’s a collection of storefronts, markets, shanty buildings, dust, collective taxis, beatup trucks, and colorful locals. Uphill and away is the House of Representative, that I checked out as well and even signed into the Guest Book.
