Bulgaria: Rila Monastery
Rila Monastery is the most revered and famous monastery in not only Bulgaria but in the Eastern Orthodox religion. Built in the 10th century high up in the Rila Mountains it’s nothing short of heart-stopping with incredible frescos covering not only the inside of the building but even all the outside domes hallways. Just stunning!It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
