Cambodia: Phnom Penh – Wat Phnom

Phnom Pehn is totally flat with only one hill in the whole city – the man-made 27m/100ft high hill with the historic Wat Phnom temple on top. Supposedly, there was a temple here as early as 15th century and the city grew around it. The modern structure however was built in the 19th century and then finished in 1926. You climb the stairs adorned with lions with asses that even Kim Kardashian would envy, to arrive at the ornate pagoda with Buddhist themes painted all around and a shining gold shrine in the middle. Behind the pagoda stands a sparkling white stupa. The temple has huge religious significance to locals and is usually crowded more then any other spot in the city.
