Cameroon: Long-crested Eagle

One of the truly unique Central African bird species – Long-crested eagle – has the longest crest of funky feathers on its head of any created eagle in the world. Unlike other eagles, this one is almost exclusively feeds on mice and other small rodents. Another peculiarity – it doesn’t hunt from the air but rather sits motionless on a perch or a branch for hours and then just swoops down in one rapid motion and voila – dinner is served. Geographically confined to a rather narrow range in West and central Africa.
