Cameroon: Mount Cameroon – Forest

Mount Cameroon is an active strati volcano rising to 13,250 ft or 4,040 m, the highest point in West and Central Africa. I didn’t allocate enough time (not did I bring gear) to scale it to the top, so had to settle to going about half way to first hut and beyond up in the desolate savanna. The forest part is spectacular with massive trees, ferns, and true jungle (although very hot and humid), and at one point you are hiking in nearly milk-like fog. The trail is steep but manageable, easier when compared to Kilimanjaro or Mt Kenya. The first hut sits at the very end of the forest zone and is a good break point before pushing further up.
