Canada/Labrador: Hebron
Hebron was a Moravian mission (hence he biblical name) in an Inuit community back in the early 19th century before it was abandoned in 1950s; it was the northernmost mission in the world. At its height, it was a settlement of several thousand people but diseases and harsh life took a massive toll. Imagine living here – away from any civilization, with no arable land, frozen ground and air, and darkness for six month a year! Most buildings are just scattered ruins, except for the old Moravian Church that is being meticulously restored by a couple Inuit guys who were born here back in the days and now returned to take care and live and restore it
