El Salvador: El Salvador Food Recap

As always, we sought all the typical and authentically local Salvadoran food we could find for the food recap. Now we even study in advance to know what the local cuisine is like and what dishes to ask for and try. The true Salvadoran staple are pupusas – fat soft tortillas stuffed with cheese and meat – and pupuserias are all over the place and along every road. Another truly local item was Quesadilla, a cheesecake desert that had nothing to do with Mexican dish. We tried small fish and grilled tilapia from Lago Coatepeque. And it was in La Libertad where we gorged on seafood – Salvadoran black clams, seviche, and lobsters, lobsters, lobsters. Also worth mentioning the fantastic Cihuatan rum.
