Chatham Islands: Ocean Mail Beach

Beaches are stunning on Chatham Island – sparkling white, wide, and the water is aquamarine just beyond the beach line. One of the most spectacular beaches is Ocean Mail Beach (named so for the mail boy from New Zealand that used to arrive here). You are guaranteed to have zero people on the beach – tourism in Chatham is non-existent and locals are more focused on sheep and fish. A lot of good shelling along the surfline, including even some abalone shells. Oh, and I also saw Chatham Islands oystercatcher, an endemic bird found only here.
