China: Jiayuguan’s Night Market Street

While Xian’s night market is packed to the rim with people, in Jiayuguan – there’s hardly anybody around. Jiayuguan is as far west as the speed trains go and it’s truly the depth of China – not many people, no tourists, nobody speaks English. This street in the very center of Jiayuguan is lined with restaurants and bars and KTV spots, all seemingly offering the same menus and all very uncrowde. Being only about 100km south of Mongolia on the southern outskirts of the Gobi desert, the food here resembles more Mongolian then Chinese – a lot of grilled and boiled lamb and various lamb bodyparts. It took major effort ordering food here as nobody understood anything and even google translate wasn’t helping well.
