China: Xi’an – Drum Tower & Bell Tower

Right in the very heart of the square that is the gated city of Zian stand two medieval towers – Bell Tower in the exact center and the Drum Tower just a little to the west. Both towers were built in 1380s during the Tang Dynasty and are considered best examples of such towers in entire China. The Bell Tower tings the bell at sunrise, while the Drum Tower bangs the drum at sunset. They look like single ancient Chinese buildings by day, but at night – wow! – they get spectacularly illuminated. The towers are open well into the darkness and are visible from each other, offering spectacular sights.
