Colombia: Cartagena – Castillo San Felipe de Barajas

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is the largest fortress ever built by the Spanish in the Americas. The construction dates to 1536. Sitting on a hill above the city, it was meant to protect Cartagena from an invasion from the land side. It’s a truly massive fortress with ramparts, walls, and guns pointing everywhere. It also has a complex maze of tunnels underneath.
