Cuba: Havana – Plaza de la Revolucion

This is the largest square in Cuba and in fact the 31st largest in the world. It’s the place of massive rallies and speeches by Fidel and other revolutionary leaders. On one side is the Jose Marti Memorial – a giant spire shooting up into the sky. On the other side are several ministerial buildings, one bearing a much photographed mural of Che Guevara. A little further away, on a street leading to the Plaza – there are several anti-capitalist and anti-embargo posters including one depicting a beast sucking everything from 99%. Pretty much the same propaganda you see in New York during “Occupy Wall Street” campaigns. At least in Cuba all this imagery is aging and no one really cares for it much anymore.
