Devon Island: Maxwell Bay

Another spectacular desolate arctic bay and an awesome hike up to the highest point of the coastal range with panoramic views of the ice-clogged Maxwell Bay and surrounding mountains. This is almost arctic desert – no flora and permafrost ground that tends to suck in your boots. And you have to constantly scan the surrounding terrain for distant buttery-white spots – polar bears! One turned out to be a bear on an island across the straight, the other three ended up being just big arctic hare.
