England: Beachy Head & Seven Sisters

You thought the White Cliffs of Dover were awesome? Well the coastline further west, past the town of Eastbourne is even more dramatic, sometimes just totally surreal and incredible. The cliffs are vertical and absolutely white. At Beachy Head – you can hike along the cliff edge (keeping a respectably distance, which I clearly didn’t, since I didn’t realize the cliffs are extremely unstable and people die every year in dozens) for several kilometers. There is a spectacular red and white lighthouse standing solo in the ocean. There is another lighthouse standing at the edge of the cliffs. And then further west are the Seven Sisters formation – seven hills with white chalk vertical walls facing the water. Even further are seastacks and bird colonies.
