France: Gorges du Verdon

Verdon Gorge aka Gorges du Verdon is France’s responce to Grand Canyon and one of the most visited and often overhyped attractions on the country. Formed by Verdon River (the color of the water is turquoise hence the name), the canyon is 700m deep and 25km long, spectacularly verdant green and white with sheer limestone cliffs. It’s packed with tourists in the summer who come here to hike, float, and especially drive the two narrow twisting roads on both sides of the canyon – D952 and D955. The drives are very scenic with many awesome overlooks.
