France: Route des Vins d’Alsace (Wine Route)

Alsace is world famous for its wines – mostly whites – Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer being the top three grape varieties grown here plus and small amount of reds. The scenery is beyond spectacular – vineyards cover the rolling hills as far as the eye can see and vines comes close to the medieval tiny villages sprinkled around the incredible landscape. And of course you can sample and taste everywhere as there are hundreds of large and small producers. I tried the two that are listed among the top 10 in Alsace – Louis Sipp and Fernand Engel. Grand Crut (special designation for superior soils) Rieslings were out of this world, while Gewürztraminers were a bit too sweet.
