Germany: Schwerin – Old Town

Schwerin’s Old Town is an attraction in itself, besides the castle that sits on the lake near the town’s gates. Schwerin Cathedral stands imposingly (its tower is 118m high) at the main square in the heart of the old town, built in 1260 in the north-German Gothic Brick style. It’s rather austere inside with huge domes ceilings and many sculptures with skulls for some reason. There’s also another square just a few blocks away with two grand neo-Renaissance buildings of the Mecklenburg State Theater and the State Art Museum.
