Greenland: Nuuk – capital of Greenland

Nuuk is the capital of Greenland, and pretty much the only town in the country considered a “city”. It has a population of whopping 16k people making it one of the smallest capitals in the world by population. That being said, a quarter of the country’s population lives here. It was know as Godthab before named by Danish but renamed into its Greenlandic name – Nuuk – meaning “cape” – as it sits at a cape at the front of the Nuup Kangerlua fjord. It is the second most northern capital in the world (Longyearbin in Svalbard is first), and beating Reykyavik for silver by only 4 km to the north. Nuuk is spread out over coastal mountains with colorful houses and buildings. It even has a nightclub called “Manhattan”
