Hungary: Kecskemét

Kecskemét was absolutely beautiful – a small town in southern Hungary that is chock-full of Art Nouveau buildings in its small historic core. The Cifrapalota building is an absolute masterpiece with decorated roof and painted walls. The city hall, several ornate churches, old buildings, and palaces all congregate around a couple squares in the old part of town. There’s also a very elaborate plague tower in front of a theater. Not crowded, pleasant, and away from any tourist circuits, Kecskemet (if only you can learn to pronounce it), is definitely worth visiting.
