India: Indian Food Recap

Five weeks in India only eating Indian cuisine! Indian food is flavorful, spicy, colorful, and definitely fragrant. But I can’t say it’s my favorite or that I really like it. For starters, all Indian food looks like it’s already been eaten by somebody before – you can never tell what the ingredients are and what meat you are eating (except it’s not beef). Secondly, the curry seemingly overpowers everything else, as if every recipe reads “take meat and vegetables, add curry, throw some more curry, cover with curry, and serve with curry”. Finally, Indian food is heavily vegetarian, and for three days I even went without meat, which is a nightmare for a carnivore like me. Overall, the golden medal goes to the Rajasthani Laal Maas – a super fiery lamb curry which leaves you mouth and lips en fuego for hours. Kair Sangori – a stewed Rajasthani desert plant – takes the silver prize. And lamb biriani in Aurangabad and Mumbai take the bronze. A special mention for thalis in Jaipur and Ahmedabad. It was all fantastic and great l,but I can’t wait to eat a burger.
