Israel: Nazareth – Basilica of Annunciation

Basilica of Annunciation is a massive church built over a previous Byzantine church where supposedly the annunciation occurred (Angels announced to Mary that she was pregnant with Jesus). (I am gonna refrain from pregnancy test jokes here). The current church was built in 1969 in a rather futuristic style – bold geometric figures and lines, windows, cupola, and the building itself – it’s all rather unusual for a church. At the basement floor is the remains of the original church dating to the 3rd century BC. There are two floors to the massive building with all modern decorations, mosaics, windows, and so on.
