Israel: Mount Hermon in Golan Heights

Mount Hermon is mountain peak diving Syria and the Golan Heights in Israel. On the peak is the UN peacekeeper mission in no-man’s land. From the Israeli side you can take a cable car to the top for a panorama of peaks further out in Syria. It was an interesting experience since just 40-50km further out into Syria the fighting raged full-on. The mortar cannonade was loud and pretty much non-stop with a barrage or ground-shaking explosions every 5-10 minutes or so. The Fiji UN peacekeepers were visibly concerned while the Israeli military was calm and couldn’t care less. Plenty of tourists took the cable ride and hiked among the 9 thousand feet peaks totally oblivious to ISIS battling Syrian troops just 30 miles away (or whoever it was).
