Jordan: Wadi Rum – Red Dunes & Sands

Wadi Rum is a totally outworldly and surreal Martian-like desert and mountains area, replete with red sandstone rocks, stand alone pillars, arches, canyons, and blood-red colorful sand dunes. The largest wadi (dry river bed) in Jordan, it is the ultimate nature playground for hiking, 4WD-ing, climbing, or just sitting back and enjoy the incredible landscape and colors. Watch camels pass by, climb to the too of incredible arches, or get stuck in deep red sand while trying to navigate the dunes – you can do it all here. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most incredible sight in Wadi Rum are the red dunes, deep deep red in color. In fact, the landscape is so Martian that Wadi Rum is often chosen for sci-fi movies – Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Red Planet, Prometheus, Last Days on Mars, and finally The Martian – were all filmed here. You can climb the red dunes to the top (not easy going endeavor) for some incredible panoramic views of the endless landscape of Wadi Rum. Definitely one of the most amazing places I have seen in my life.
