Kazakhstan: Balkhash

Balkhash town sits on the shores of Lake Balkhash, the 15th largest lake in the world and rapidly shrinking l, similar to the Aral Sea. The town of roughly 70k people sits on the northern shore and was established in 1937 as a copper smelting outpost, it is still a copper producing location. Waterfront areas with views of the lake are quite pretty, as is the large square with independence monument and horse statues.
