Kenya: Mount Kenya – Going up Mount Kenya via Sirimon Route

Going up Mt Kenya via Sirimon Route starts at the Sitimon Gate at 2650 m / 8700 ft and first takes 7km to Old Moses Hut at 3300 m / 10830 ft. From here it’s another 22km up a beautiful glacial Mackinder’s Valley with rivers, waterfalls, bogs, misty lobelia forest, and mossy rock fields. Eventually you get to Shipton’s Camp at 4200 m / 13800 ft. It’s located in a super stunning setting in a bowl just below the towering Mt Kenya peaks (there are three visible). You bunk here for a half night, ready to scale the peaks at 3am next morning.
