Kenya: Shimba Hills National Reserve – Game Drives

Shimba Hills National Reserve is located just of the Indian Ocean coastline south of Mombasa and is one of the largest and last remaining tracks of coastal forests along the Africa’s East coast. The vegetation here is quite dense and spotting animals is rather difficult (despite the fact that the concentrations are quite high and there a lot of elephants and antelopes hiding in the thick bush). We saw bushbucks and waterbucks, impala, warthogs, and quick a lot of birds. One the latter was the very rare Crested Guinefowl, similar to the Zambian one, but slightly different in a couple small features, and found only here. There’s a lot of rare flora at Shimba Hills as well – 159 species of plants growing here are considered endangered.
