Kurils/Kunashir: Okhotsk Sea Coastline

The eastern side of Kunashir Island faces Japan to the west just mere 40km away with the Sea of Okhotsk in between. The entire coastline is a beautiful hike with spectacular desolate seascapes. It’s an awesome place to enjoy untouched and totally undeveloped nature for miles and miles. Cliffs and towering seastacks everywhere, somewhat resembling the Olympic National Park in USA. And at low tide, a craggy shelf gets exposed with tide pools and different sea creatures – crabs, jellyfish, seastars, and even a perfectly blended fish. Oh, and everywhere where a small stream joins the ocean – the water is boiling with salmon congregating and ready to swim upstream.
