Laos: Luang Prabang – Alms Giving Ceremony

Luang Prabang is the town of many temples and consequently monks that live there. Every morning at a crazy 5am, monks walk along the main street with brass bowls strung across their chest, while local people sit along the street and give monks loads of sticky rice and candies. This is the world-renown Alms Giving Ceremony, dating back to the 14th century. It’s a highly revered ritual for Laotians and was one of the reason why Luang Prabang was named a UNESCO World Heritage site – not just for historic buildings but also cultural traditions.
