Laos: Luang Prabang – Historic Quarter

The heart of Luang Prabang is located on a narrow peninsula that has only four streets running along and about 3 dozen across (kind of like a mini-Manhattan). Mekong River is on one side and Nam Khan on the other, and the entire peninsula is on a plateau about 300 feet above the rivers flowing below. For such a tiny space – there are over 20 monasteries in the old town Luang Prabang. The streets are also lined up by old French colonial houses and architecture. All of this amounts to the UNESCO World Heritage designation. It’s a pleasure to roam and explore the old town on foot.
