Laos: Pakse – Wat Phabad

Wat Phabad is the central and largest (although not that beautiful) Buddhist temple in Pakse. It covers large grounds with several temple buildings scattered around. What’s more interesting about this are the hundreds of tombstones that are traditional on Laos as burial monuments – in a sense, the entire temple is just one giant cemetery in the center of the city. Each tomb is like a mini Laotian temple and they line all the walls and cover a lot of empty space. Oh, and supposedly, Buddha’s footprint is located in this temple (I think given how many temples around the world claim having Buddha’s footprints, he probably was a prolific traveler and country-collector). No tourists here, so you have it all to yourself.
