Laos: Vientiane – Phra That Luang Golden Stupa

Phra That Luang Golden Stupa is the most important religious site in Laos and is regarded the symbol of the country. It’s foundation dates back to the 3rd century. By the time Buddhism came here, it became a major stupa covered with thousands of pounds of gold leaf. However, multiple Siamese, Chinese, and Burmese invasions plundered all the gold. French further destroyed it in the 50s war for Laotian inference. The stupa was since meticulously restored and the renovation and expansion is ongoing.
