Libya: Tripoli – Arch of Aurelius

Tripoli was known as in ancient Roman times and the massive Arch of Aurelius stands at one of the entrances to the old city. The Arch was erected in 165 AD, commemorating the victory of the Romans over the Parthians. The Arch is a cube opening to four sides and was build entirely from marble. It’s spectacular by day and even better when lit at night. And being one of the few tourists in Libya, you can have it all to yourself.
