Mali: Nomadic Tribes in Mopti River Delta

During the dry season months when the delta of Niger and Bani rivers dries up, nomadic desert cattle herders move into the outskirts of Mopti. Mini villages spring up on dry land and near remaining waterways, made of palm branches and grass with herds of cows and sheep and goats as far as horizon. These are Fulani herdsmen tribe and they have been moving around the Sahel region for centuries. It’s somewhat reminiscent of the European electronic music festivals – camps, tents, and massive herds – just sans the pounding music.
