Malta: Victoria & St George’s Basilica

Victoria is the capital of the island of Gozo and is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its spectacular cathedral and the citadel. St George’s Basilica was built in the 17th century between 1672 and 1678 and is known as Marble Basilica or Golden Basilica for its rich use of marbles and gilded stucco. The interior is beyond scrumptious with priceless paintings all over and loads of marble inlays in walls and columns throughout. The city of Victoria surrounding the church is a jumble of ultra narrow streets that you can get completely lost in, all made from the same yellow sandstone.
