Mexico/Baja Sur: Isla Coronado – Bottlenose Dolphins

And the last wildlife encounter on Isla Coronado was a large group of bottlenose dolphins, perhaps 30-50, playing with the boat and jumping and performing acrobatic saltos right in front of our eyes. Common bottlenose dolphins swim just under 19 kph, hunting for a variety of food from fish to squid and shrimp, consuming 6-7 kg a day. When not hunting, dolphins engage in elaborate swimming and jumping show, showing off their skills to each other. As the boat made loops among all the dolphins, they were clearly following it and almost diving under the nose and then jumping very high in the air, sometimes in group. An absolutely amazing wildlife experience.
