Mexico/Puebla: Puebla – Exploring Puebla City

NESCO World Heritage listed city of Puebla is amazing to explore. Founded in 1531, it was the first city planned and laid out on a grid system by the Spanish and is jam-packed with magnificent colonial buildings and architecture on every street. Puebla is famous for its colorful Talavera tilework and tiles adorn many of the walls of the historic building throughout the old town center (and authentic Talavera souvenirs and plates and cups and tiles are for sale everywhere). The city is also is full of churches seemingly on every corner – from the grandest Cathedral of Puebla (previous post), to Templo de San Cristobal, Iglesia la Compania, Templo San Francisco, and Iglesia Santo Domingo (which deserves a separate post – next!). There are several notable buildings as well, like the super ornate Casa del Alfenique or Casa de Los Munecos. And Puebla is also the heart of interesting cuisine and gastronomy!
