Mexico/Queretaro: Bernal

The small colonial town of Bernal northeast from Queretaro is known more for the massive monolith Pena de Bernal right outside the town – its the third tallest monolith in the world, rising 350 m (1,150 ft) above the surrounding terrain! The peak is clearly visible from any point in town and makes a good background for the photos of the beautiful 17th century church in the main square as well all the markets – the area is known for cheese and wine production.
