Micronesia: Breadfruit

Breadfruit is the ultimate and absolute food staple in the Pacific (like rice in Asia or potatoes in Belarus). The trees originate from here and grow both wild in the jungle and are cultivated all over. The fruits are ranging from a grapefruit to football size and rah tree yields 100-200 fruits. When you lightly grill the fruit in the fire, the flesh comes out tasting like bread or potatoes. No need to make flour or dig in the ground. In fact, when ancient Polynesians came to the pacific from Asia, they abandoned rice in favor of breadfruit.
