Mongolia: Gandan Khiid Monastery
Gandan Khiid is a massive Tibetan-style Buddhist monastery in the heart of Ulaanbaatar. It consists of several monastery buildings and schools but is most famous for the central and grandest temple of Boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara that contains a humongous 26.5-meter/80-feet statue. This is the tallest indoor statue in the world! The frame was built from copper back in the 19th century and since then it has been covered with 2286 precious stones and gilded with gold leaf.
