Montenegro: Tara River Canyon

Tara River Canyon in the northern Montenegro has been a longtime bucketlist item. It is the largest and deepest canyon in Europe, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Durmitor National Park. The central focal point here, attracting massive crowds of tourists is the Durdevica Tara Bridge built in 1940, 172m above the river below, at Tara Canyon’s most spectacular part. It’s quite a tourist trap with onlookers, adventure sport junkies, and souvenir touts, but it’s still quite spectacular and impressive and worth seeing. There is also an old monastery of Saint Archangel Michael.
