Nagorno-Karabakh: Shushi City Walls

Shushi or Shusha was a major city throughout its rough history – it was aa. Armenian fortress in the medieval times, then the capital of the Khanate of Kharabakh in the 18th century, and then the site of ethnic cleansing in both directions in the 20th century. The towns population is still about 1/5 of the pre-1992 war when it was primarily Azeri and not all-Armenian in terms of ethic population. The entire neighborhoods, and ancient city walls lie abandoned and overgrown with raspberries.
