North Macedonia: Scopje (Revisited)

Scopje, the capital of Macedonia, underwent a massive reconstruction back in 2014 (when I was here first time), when hundreds of kitschy monuments were built all around the city center – monuments, fountains, bridges, and more monuments. Fastforward to 2021 and it all looks pretty grim. The materials used for all those monuments were cheap and of bad quality – the copper is all going greed, every monument’s head is deeply covered in pigeon poop, ground is cracked, and homeless beggars are everywhere – all quite depressing. But the city is still nicely lit at night, and construction of new monuments and cathedrals is ongoing.
